Busy mapping out the world's remaining payphones!
Busy mapping out the world's remaining payphones!
PayFoneMap is a collaborative, crowdsourced project dedicated to documenting the location, status, and physical condition of public telephone booths (payphones) across various geographic regions. Often described affectionately as an "analog social network," the project aims to digitally preserve a record of this vanishing form of telecommunications infrastructure.
Payphones may seem like a thing of the past in today's age of ubiquitous mobile phones, but they still have their usefulness in certain situations. Whether you run out of battery power on your phone, forget your mobile device at home, or are travelling in an area with poor phone signal, payphones can provide an easy and convenient way to make a phone call when you need to.
Additionally, payphones remain an important option for those who may not have access to a mobile phone.
We are absolutely open and welcome to anybody who wants to join the team and help with our mapping project. Any contributions made by others is greatly welcomed and appreciated, and we encourage everyone to participate in our team project.
